Midsummer Light Yoga Weekend

Join us 23-25 June 2017 for a refreshing break. Get away from it all for a weekend in nature. Practicing yoga, enjoying delicious Ayurvedic food and great company we can say a yoga weekend is truly a change of scene, inside and out.

Peter Roussel will host this special yoga retreat weekend 23 – 25 June 2017 in the east of Netherlands (2.5hr drive from Den Haag). Blanca is our beautiful co-host taking care of all your needs. Remco will be offering deep bodywork, shiatsu and soothing massages.

Its special because we travel inside. Making space to integrate and reflect over recent events, using the internal arts of Asana (postures) Pranayama (breathing) and sitting (meditation). This will help us to digest and learn bringing us to a place of balance for what is to come. There is lots to learn and explore in the practice too. It will be gentle and simple enough for beginners but with depth and detail making rich for experienced yogi’s.

A weekend of yoga is not only a refreshing get-away but also boost for your practice that will move you on to deeper practice. It’s a change of scene that affords a view of life and practice from new perspectives.


The yoga practice

This weekend we will mix together different practices. Different approaches to hatha yoga -restorative and active.  Postures and breathing in traditional techniques expertly guided. There will be short intro to meditation and Pranayama (Amazing mind clearing breath work).

Peter combines pranayama with meditation and asana offering variations to a level you can handle. We can get behind the filters of perception, projection, mis interpretation, wrong outlook, bias, to see the simplicity behind the veils.

Peter will guide slow steady educational Hatha, super slow Yin and a bit of flow. Practicing several times in the same day, takes us deeper. Each gentle practice builds on the openness of the ones before.

We will be sitting still for quiet time. We will do breathing practices and we will also do asanas to bring steadiness and alertness. To finish we will be sitting again. The next day the body is openand mind clearer so that the effect of the new practice takes on different dimensions.

Deeper tastes of our inner world afforded by these intensives can be recalled in self practice moments afterwards. Yoga weekends become an anchor in your practice. Teaching you how to access something deeper, and finding new skills to play with and progress.


The venue

We have booked a beautiful old farmhouse, in historic part of East Holland. It’s been well renovated recently and looks lovely. We think this will be a nice spot to hang out together for our practice. See their website: ‘Drostes’

Surrounded by woods and meadows this venue is located in the protected area of ​​nature. Accessible only via a long private road, you enter a nice place where everyday life can be left behind

The unspoilt environment offers an ideal setting for contemplative practice. In the relaxing atmosphere, we will recharge, enjoying the beauty of the natural surroundings. Yoga classes take place in the large attic. The wooden beams, lovely natural light and views out onto the garden make this an idilic space for practice.

There are a number of double rooms and limited single rooms. Rooms are allocated

Besides that the venue has a cosy living room with fireplace, a large dining area and a wonderful garden.


Healthy food

Building on the delight of this retreat is nourishment through healthy Ayurvedic food. We are proud to have Lonneke to prepare our food with all the skills and devotion she brings. She will make sure you will be nourished with fresh and healthy meals and snacks. If you have any allergies or other dietary wishes, we can of course take that into account if you inform us in advance of the retreat. Coffee will not be served and it might be an idea to take a short break from your habit to prepare. Chai tea (Dairy free) will be served and plenty of herbal teas. Please respect that this is an alcohol free event.

There will be herb tea and fruit before practice in the morning but it is highly recommended to wait for brunch, the breath work is powerful and empty belly is required.

  • Day 1 – Friday 23 June 2017
    17.00  Arrival at the farm
    17.30 – 19:00 Yoga practice Slow pace Hatha with some deep moves to free the spine after travel
    19.30 – 20:30  Dinner light Ayurvedic food
    20:30 Campfire and free time, herbal tea, or go to bed as you like
    21.00 Yoga Nidra (optional) 30 mins lying down guided relaxation of whole body, a ’sister’ practice of meditation.

    Day 2 – Saturday 24 June

    08.00 – 08:30 Breakfast. tea and fruit for a light breakfast.

    10.30 – 11:15 Breathing practice (pranayama). 10mins gentle body wake up stretches. Sitting position for fire breath. Some breath holding and slow breath, with option to lie on bolster for slow breath. long relaxation to finish. herbal tea break.

    11:30 – 13:00  Morning yoga practice Slow restorative start, some dynamic standing postures with details and props. 5mins mediation and 10 mins rest at the end

    13.00 – 14:30 Brunch, Full vegetarian meal with fruits and cooked foods, indian chai and herb teas, no coffee. 

    14:30 – 16:00 Free Time, be alone or hang with friends, (pref no internet) take a walk, rest or read.

    16:30 –18:30 Yoga evening practice, Slow restorative practice with a little deep breathing at the end. deep and gentle.

    17.00 – 19:30 Dinner. Delicious Ayurvedic meal with veggie curry, dahl, rice, salad and pickles

    20:00 – 20:30 Time by the fire side, spontaneous kirtan, if there is interest some of us might like Short nightime guided meditation (optional)

    Day 3 – Sunday 25 June

    08.00 – 08:30 Breakfast. tea and fruit for a light breakfast.

    10.30 – 11:15 Breathing practice (pranayama) 10mins gentle body wake up stretches. Sitting position for fire breath. Some breath holding and slow breath (Ujjiyai), with option to lie on bolster for slow breath. Repeated from Saturday to build up skills. Introduce bandha’s and internal focus.

    11:30 – 13:00  Morning yoga practice Slow flow hatha. Supported postures to relax into the practice, then gentle vinyasa warm up with sun salutations and standing postures. Some floor work, supported for those who need and deeper for those ready to go deeper. Adjustments will be given and alternatives.

    13.00 – 14:30  BrunchFull vegetarian meal with fruits and cooked foods, indian chai and herb teas, no coffee.

    14:30 – 15:30 Pack bags, Walk, rest or read

    15:30 – 16:30 Closing circle,  sit together and share our experience and what we have learnt or just listen, say goodbyes
